ABOUT THE DAYS
This focused two days workshop provides clinicians with both the theoretical foundation and practical skills required for effective wound debridement. Participants will gain in-depth knowledge of debridement principles and take part in a hands-on skills session on Conservative Sharp Wound Debridement (CSWD) The program includes interactive learning through quizzes, case studies, group activities, and multiple opportunities for discussion and Q&A.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
This workshop is recommended for qualified health professionals-Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Podiatrists, and Doctors-who are currently involved in wound care and perform wound management procedures on a regular (at least weekly) basis.
WHAT YOUʼLL LEARN?
Day 1: 8:30am - 4:30pm
This immersive Day 1 session combines essential theory with practical clinical insight - giving you the knowledge you need to perform safe, effective, and evidence-based wound debridement.
Understand your scope of practice and professional responsibilities in CSWD. Identify viable vs non-viable tissue and know when debridement is appropriate.
Complete a comprehensive client assessment to determine the safest and most effective approach.
Recognise contraindications and precautions and confidently obtain informed consent.
Plan and manage pain control before, during, and after the procedure. Distinguish between underlying tissue types such as fat, tendon, muscle, and bone.
Know when to refer or seek specialist input. Respond effectively to adverse events such as bleeding, pain, or tissue trauma.
Incorporate debridement into an ongoing wound management plan.
Choose the right post-debridement dressings and care strategies.
Compare the advantages and limitations of different debridement methods.
Day 2: 8:30am - 4:30pm
Objectives: Select and utilise the correct equipment and supplies required to carry out chosen debridement methods and CSWD effectively and safely.
Set up and maintain a sterile field for equipment and supplies required to carry out CSWD.
Obtain practical clinical/surgical skills in CSWD Practical Skills Select, and utilise the correct equipment and supplies required to carry out chosen debridement methods and CSWD effectively and safely.

*Important Note* Completion of this workshop does not authorise participants to independently perform Conservative Sharp Wound Debridement. Endorsement and competency recognition remain subject to your organisation's specific policies and procedures. However, the education and skills gained through this program will equip you with the knowledge and practical experience necessary to apply for competency assessment and potential endorsement within your workplace, in alignment with your organisational guidelines.
